DocJ over at RedState has an excellent post up on the latest shennanigans from the Left on funding our military.
Tennessee is home to several military installations and countless military families (including my own). It is both discouraging and infuriating that the Left is playing politics with the lives and well being of our sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, fathers and mothers, husbands and wives.
This is precisely the sort of issue that the VOLiance exists to address. Concerned and sincere Americans can legitimately disagree on the validity of our military presence in Iraq or anywhere else. They can debate it and use many tools at their disposal to advance their position in order for their views to ultimately triumph.
However, our troops are in harm’s way. That is a fact. For Congress to play with their funding and thereby put their lives and safety at risk, to say nothing of their mission, is not an appropriate political strategy. If they have the votes to bring the troops home, then they are free to do so. If they cannot muster those votes, then it’s a political battle they will lose. To force them home by making it financially impossible for them to stay without incurring grave risks to life and limb seems to me to be a political strategy fraught with danger – and not just for the troops.
DocJ recommends that elected officials on the Right respond by simply shutting down all business in Congress until the leadership on the Left withdraws or disavows their plan. His post is titled simply ‘Shut. It. Down’. It seems an interesting strategy. I personally agree and will let my elected Representatives know. Those of you Tennesseans with family serving in the military, who live in or work with folks who have family serving in the military, who live in Nashville, Clarksville, Millington and other locations around the state with military bases – what say you?
